Camberwell Grammar School is an independent Anglican day school for boys from Pre-Preparatory to Year 12. We currently have an exciting opportunity available for an experienced Grounds Officer to join our great team.

Reporting to the Assistant Property Manager the role of Grounds Officer is to assist in the maintenance of the appearance and presentation of the School gardens and grounds and assist the Assistant Property Manager (APM) in achieving any and all compliances as required by law, together with other duties as requested. The Grounds Officer will also support management in planning any future landscaping around the Schools busy calendar.

Key responsibilities of this position will include, but are not limited to;
• Carry out duties as instructed by APM
• General gardening duties including but not limited to: mowing and brush cutting, pruning, mulching, planting, weed management etc.
• Installation and maintenance of irrigation in both gardens and lawns
• Pesticide and herbicide application
• Some experience in sports turf management would be favourable
• Setting up and preparation of sporting ovals for School sports activities in locations other than the School – including setting out playing fields, line marking, erecting and dismantling of sports equipment, goal posts, marquees etc.
• Regular maintenance of tools, protective equipment and machinery
• Assist the APM to develop work schedules and coordination for holiday periods
• Observe all CGS safe work practices, rules and regulations in all aspects of work performed;
• Assist when required with the moving of furniture, equipment, materials etc.

To be considered for this role you must possess the following:
• Previous experience in large gardens, parks or open space areas – essential
• Tertiary qualification - Cert IV or above in Horticulture or Parks and Garden – essential
• Have an eye for detail
• Knowledge and skills in safe operation, care and optimum practice in use of machinery and equipment
• Excellent knowledge of plants, pests & diseases
• Knowledge of appropriate chemical selection and application practices (ACUP desirable)
• Experience working in School Environments (desirable)
• Knowledge and application of relevant OH&S legislation
• Experience operating tractors
• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work well unsupervised, as well as in a team
• The ability and willingness to use own initiative
• Working with Children Check and Police Check
• Flexibility with hours – some weekend work will be required
