Turf Supervisor /Turf Tradesperson Positions - All (MCC) Venues

The Melbourne Cricket Club manages the Melbourne Cricket Ground, one of Australia’s greatest assets.  The MCG is host to more than 70 major sports events annually, including the Boxing Day Test and the AFL Grand Final, attracting over three million patrons and visitors. The Facilities department’s Arenas team is responsible for ensuring that all playing surfaces managed by the MCC are operationally ready for each event held. Which include the MCG, Albert Ground and Beaumaris Secondary College.

Multiple opportunities have become available for talented Turf Tradespersons to join our dedicated Arenas team.  These roles report to the Arena Senior Managers and are responsible for supporting the operational plans, through applying trade level turf skills, for the MCG and other MCC managed venues to ensure that the grounds are ready as required by the club’s commitment to customers, and meet or exceed service standards.  

In order to be successful you will need to be multi-dimensional in terms of your turf skills, with the ability to adjust from cricket season to AFL season and display the same level of competence in both areas. In addition you will be passionate about delivering the best possible playing surface.

The successful applicant will have:

  • Completed at a minimum Certificate II Sports Turf Management  
  • Demonstrated relevant experience in the application of turf management skills and a passion and desire to prepare cricket wickets to the highest standard.)
  • Relevant mathematical and mechanical skills (in respect of turf trade calculations and mechanical plant operation)
  • Other relevant role related qualifications such as chemical applications certificate/and a current and valid driver’s licence
  • Competent and safe use of machinery
  • Previous experience assisting in the organisation and implementation of designated works programs to achieve continual turf management improvements
  • Experience with early identification of turf problems and recommended solutions
  • The ability to meet the physical requirements of the role, including manual handling
  • The ability to work unsupervised and as a part of a team
  • The flexibility and motivation to work the necessary hours to accommodate additional overtime for seasonal demands of working at the MCC venues
