Essential Maintenance Statements for Sports Turf Facilities South Australia

Friday 20, Nov 2020

Update to South Australian Turf Managers - November 20th, 2020

Since our previous update, we have received a large number of calls and emails from turf managers in South Australia relating to the requirements covering essential maintenance for safety and upkeep of public and recreational spaces, reserves, parks, gardens, golf courses and maintenance works to prevent loss or damage to playing surfaces including meeting environmental obligations and pest and disease management.

Below are links to an Essential Maintenance Statement for both Golf Courses and Sportsfields & Grounds that can be utilised to determine individual requirements for determining essential work for maintenance and turf management to prevent loss or damage.

The statement has been developed to ensure that an estimated AUD $5Billion worth of community sporting facilities and golf course infrastructure in Australia can be sustained, allowing Sports Turf Managers be enabled to continue to work, safely and securely during publicly enforced lock out periods.

The continuation of essential maintenance in the sports turf management industry protects workers, jobs and secures facilities for the physical and mental wellbeing of millions of players who will resume play following the easement of restrictions and social distancing directions.

Our industry statement outlines those treatments and practices considered essential for the safe maintenance a Golf Course and Sportsfield & Grounds facilities during government restrictions.

Please note that it is accepted that sportsfields, golf courses, school grounds, bowling greens and other sports turf facilities exist in many different forms, on many different soil types and in differing landscapes, therefore, this guidance may require adaptation to suit individual facility needs, maintenance requirements to prevent damage or loss, and climate circumstances.
