The Board of the Australian Sports Turf Managers Association is pleased to announce the release of its Annual Report for 2019/2020 for Members.
The 2019 / 2020 report includes an update from President Brett Balloch and Treasurer Chris Burgess, and summarises the financial performance of the Association for the 2019/2020 Year.
Across a challenging year on many fronts, the Board has provided a summary for members on key initiatives delivered during the 12 months, with one of the most significant being the announcement by the AGCSA in September 2019 that it would be re-branding to the Australian Sports Turf Managers Association (ASTMA) to align itself to be more representative of its membership base, and its position as the industry peak-body for Turf Management in Australia. Pleasingly there was a significant increase in membership applications immediately after the decision and announcement.
In May 2019 the Board announced the completion of the first State and National affiliation agreement between the then AGCSA and all State Golf Course Superintendents Associations deepening the collaboration and cooperation between associations and setting the platform for a stronger future.
Advocacy is becoming an increasingly important part of the associations work and with the Covid -19 outbreak and issues; advocacy was brought to the forefront in our daily work with significant advocacy activities with Federal, State and Local Governments relating to restrictions on Turf Management were undertaken. Alongside this, there was a tremendous amount of member assistance and support work relating to variations, employment legislation and the Jobkeeper program. Development of industry guidelines to managing turf surfaces in the Covid-19 climate was also produced and circulated. Working with Sport Australia, the AIS and Federal and State Governments also saw the development of a return to community sport requirement and facility management guidelines produced with input and guidance from the Association. These areas will be a continuing focus for the Assocaition over the coming year.
