The 2021 Players Championship Volunteer Program

The Australian Sports Turf Managers Association in conjunction with New Zealand Golf Course Superintendents Association (NZGCSA) and John Deere Golf, are excited to announce for the second year The Players Championship (TPC) Volunteer Program.

In March 2021, three ASTMA members and one NZGCSA member will secure a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be involved in golf’s ‘5th Major’ thanks to the generous sponsorship and support of John Deere Golf.

The lucky four will head to Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida in the US to join the course management team at TPC Sawgrass and help prepare the famed Stadium Course for The Players Championship in what is an outstanding career development opportunity. 

After returning to its traditional March date for the 2020 Championship, 3 ASTMA and 1 NZGCSA members were part of the grounds crew for the historic event.  Historic for both the return to March timeframe, and also due to the event being cancelled after completion of the first round, with organisers saying it was "the right thing to do" in order to safeguard against the spread of coronavirus.

In spite of this, the 4 lucky members in 2020 spent over a week in the US working with the TPC team in course preparation, and came back with many learnings that they will share in the June issue of Australian Turfgrass Management Magazine. 

The 2021 event will see the Course Management team undertake very different challenges to that of preparing the course this time around, and this is your chance to be a part of it. 

The 3 selected Australian Sports Turf Managers Association members will join the maintenance team for the duration of the Players Championship on the PGA Tour, with travel, accommodation, meals and uniform all included.

 

HOW DO I SIGN UP?

Three ASTMA members will secure a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be involved in golf’s ‘5th Major’ thanks to the generous sponsorship and support of John Deere Golf, joining the TPC Sawgrass maintenance team for the duration of The Players Championship with travel, accommodation, meals and uniform all included.

The application process involves three stages, and the deadline for Members to register interest (Stage 1) is Friday 28th August 2020 with successful candidates notified following Stage 3 in late November 2020

 

STAGE 1:      REGISTER YOUR INTEREST

To get the process started and register interest in joining the Course Management team at TPC Sawgrass in 2021:

  • Interested applicants are required to fill the online application form on the Australian Sports Turf Managers Association website to ascertain their eligibility. 
  • Once submitted and checked, details will be sent by email regarding the Stage 2.
  • Please note that applicants need to be 21 years of age or over and permitted to enter the USA, and
  • Hold a current passport with at least 12 months prior to expiry from March 2021.
