The announcement came last week from Natadola Bay Championship Golf Course that the course would be temporarily closing due to government restrictions around social distancing due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The club stated on their Facebook page "The wellbeing of our Members, guests and Visitors is of the utmost importance to us!
"Following Fiji Government’s announcement regarding Enhanced Community Quarantine and stringent Social Distancing Measures in relation to Covid-19, the Golf Course is temporarily closing effective 03rd April 2020 until further notice."
It seems mother nature also had plans for the course to close.
According to Accuweather, the island of Fiji was spared from a direct hit of the storm but suffered extensive damage from high winds, heavy rain and a strong storm surge midweek.
Superintendent at Natadola Bay Championship Golf Course and ASTMA member Steve Lalor stated that the clubhouse unfortunately copped most of the damage but there is still a lot of cleanup on the course, "Big cleanup ahead with reduced staffing due to COVID19. One positive...lakes are full for upcoming dry season."
The ASTMA wishes Steve and the team all the best during the clean up from the storm.
