TPC Sawgrass Volunteer Program Announcement

Wednesday 20, Mar 2019

The Australian Golf Course Superintendents Association (AGCSA) in association with John Deere are delighted to announce the launch of The Players Championship (TPC) Volunteer Program 2020 for Members of the AGCSA.

The 2019 event was a close run event, where Rory McIlroy claimed his first victory in over a year and a maiden title at The Players Championship on a rollercoaster Sunday in Florida.

The Northern Irishman, who has struggled on Sundays on which he has been in contention since his last Tour win at Bay Hill in March 2018, went into the final day a shot back from the overnight leader, Jon Rahm.

Coming down to the final few holes on Sunday, McIlroy took advantage of a 347-yard drive on the par-five 16th to set up a two-putt birdie and take a one-shot lead down the last two holes.  Meanwhile Englishman Fleetwood moved to within two shots of the lead with an eagle on the 16th before his ball found the water, via the sleepers, on the iconic Sawgrass 17th.

The very hole that is an icon of the Course, and you can be a part of preparing the 17th - even playing it! - next year.

In March 2020, three Full Members of the AGCSA can secure a once in a lifetime opportunity to be involved in the '5th Major', thanks to the generous support of our Silver Partner John Deere, by heading to Ponte Vedra Beach in the United States next March to join the Course Management team and help prepare the Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass for The Players Championship.

TPC Sawgrass is home to The Players Championship, golf’s unofficial fifth major, with the 2019 event returning to its traditional March date after 12 years of being hosted in May. The shift in 2019 and 2020 will see the Course Management team undertake very different challenges to that of preparing the course in May, and this is your chance to be a part of it.

Selected AGCSA members will join the maintenance team for the duration of the Players Championship on the PGA Tour, with travel, accommodation, meals and uniform all included.

Australian AGCSA representatives will arrive into the USA on Friday the 6th of March, and join the TPC Course Management team for this outstanding career development opportunity before departing for home on the 16th of March.
