AGCSA Regional Walk 'n' Talks - Byron Bay Golf Club, 26 October 2017

Following the success of the two regional Victoria walk 'n' talk sessions in September, the AGCSA, in conjunction with Platinum Partner Amgrow, is excited to announce that it will be heading to Byron Bay Golf Club, NSW on Thursday 26 October. Like the Vic sessions, this event is free of charge for ALL members of the turf industry regardless of what sector you operate in.

As with the Warrnambool and Axedale seminars, the Byron Bay day will feature a guest superintendent, with the AGCSA delighted to confirm that David Warwick from Avondale Golf Club will be joining us for the day. David is one of Australia's most innovative course superintendents and is a past dual winner of the AGCSA's Excellence in Golf Course Management Award and Claude Crockford Environmental Award.

Following David's presentation, host superintendent and current GCSAQ vice-president Shaun Cross will take attendees on a comprehensive course walk. Shaun and his team have overseen a raft of changes to the course in recent years, with that work being rewarded in 2014 with the AGCSA Excellence in Golf Course Managament Award. Shaun always has Byron Bay in immaculate condition and those who head along will see why it has won many admirers from both club golfers and touring professionals alike. Also joining in on the day will be AGCSATech senior agronomist Bruce Macphee who will be there to answer any additional turf management related questions or provide some advice from his many years of course management and construction experience.

Walk ā€˜nā€™ talk sessions are a very popular format among turf managers and their informal nature ensures there is always plenty of discussion and debate about maintenance practices and challenges. The format for the Byron Bay GC day will be as follows:

  • 8.45am: Coffee/registration (please meet at the clubhouse - Byron Bay Golf Club, 62 Broken Head Rd, Byron Bay, 2481)
  • 9am-10am: David Warwick (Avondale GC) presentation
  • 10am-12 noon: Course walk with host superintendent Shaun Cross
  • 12pm-1pm: BBQ lunch

For those AGCSA members who are part of the AGCSA Accreditation Program, these regional walk ā€˜nā€™ talk sessions carry a total of 3 Continuing Education Points.
