Enviro Links Design Pty Ltd
Jamie Dawson founded Enviro Links Design Pty Ltd in 1997. The firm offers an integrated approach to golf course design built on Jamie’s recognised expertise in Golf Course Architecture, Vegetation Management, Landscape Architecture and Environmental Planning. This diverse range of skills offers a holistic awareness and sustainable strategic golfing solutions with design flair. It is particularly appreciated by established clubs favouring an integrated ‘one stop’ service to problem solving or optimising improvements be they master planning to remodelling or to guide safety solutions.
Since 1986, Jamie has undertaken over 150 successful golf course projects ranging from design of new championship courses to entire Course Master Plans to smaller remodelling, practice facilities or vegetation works. These range from some of Australia’s premier clubs such as The Australian, Royal Canberra, Kingston Heath, Federal and Oatlands to private/public courses such as Gungahlin Lakes, Cumberland, Warringah, Yowani, Horton Park, Maroochydore, Coffs Harbour and Pambula–Merimbula. This enables us to adapt to specific budgets and target markets – and design to the range of abilities and challenges that abound in the golfing community. New course development master planning and assisting with feasibility studies is of particular interest with experience including 6 large integrated golf resort/estate projects for Kumagai Gumi along the Queensland coast and in New Zealand in the 80’s to more recent concepts in Malaysia, Indonesia, China and SE Australia.
Jamie’s golf course design philosophy is site specific but generally includes:
- ensuring a quality course to attract players, purchasers and profile;
- providing a realistic strategic challenge and a course that is considered by all standards of golfers as enjoyable to play and worthy of returning to;
- integrate risk and reward challenges that provide opportunities for the thinking golfer and the well placed shot;
- the course should be visually pleasing and offer efficient maintainability;
- the golf course to successfully integrate into its environment, particularly sensitive areas, and design to retain key features and as many mature vegetation stands as possible to maximise established character and natural setting;
- provide adequate water storage and supply options, including water harvesting and water conservation design elements
- cater effectively for both low flow and storm capacity drainage events to maximise course playablility;
- provide safe interfaces to adjoining land uses and where integrated developments maximise frontage and course vistas to logical limits;
- ensuring viable and well sited resort or clubhouse core areas with good golfing course address and entry settings;
- utilising our realistic approach of designing to suit client budgets to yield optimal value for money outcomes.
Fulfilling these objectives by good design ensures fun and challenge for all ages and levels of golfing skill which diversifies the target markets to assist project success. This approach is applicable to both new courses and remodelling established courses. Jamie takes pride with good control of project delivery and friendly client liaison. He also favours thorough design resolution on plans and detailed documentation to assist cost effective construction outcomes. Jamie was Honorary Secretary/Treasurer of the Society of Australian Golf Course Architects in 2002/2003.
