The philosophy behind this book is that if you have a sound scientific knowledge and understanding of the components that make up your facility, it makes it a lot easier to identify problems and how to approach solving them.

The first part of the book provides the science and technology on which good decision making can be made. It allows an understanding of the processes which cause problems in the management and use of sporting facilities and landscapes. Part two raises specific problems which occur on golf courses, landscapes, sportsfields and racecourses and provides solutions.
