Forsyth named Digest's Superintendent of the Year
Royal Melbourne Golf Club superintendent and AGCSA member Richard Forsyth (pictured) was recently named the Australian Golf Digest’s Superintendent of the Year. Forsyth accepted the award during the Australian Golf Digest's Player of the Year Awards which were held at the start of Australian Masters week (12 December) at the Grand Hyatt in Melbourne.
In announcing the award, the Australian Golf Digest judging panel commented: “It was only a matter of time before the superintendent of one of the country’s premier layouts was going to be given the kudos he deserves. Richard Forsyth, the man appointed two years ago to revive Royal Melbourne’s famed sandbelt layout, did just that, overseeing a successful multi-million dollar makeover that delivered a world-class layout for The Presidents Cup and upcoming Handa Women’s Australian Open. Forsyth, formerly of Metropolitan Golf Club, justified his career move, pulling a drought-stricken RM from its deathbed and turning it back into the highly acclaimed sandbelt gem it is.”
Forsyth joined a who’s who of the Australian golf industry to be recognised on the night. Adam Scott was named Player of the Year edging out Jason Day after winning again on the US PGA Tour during 2011, while Karrie Webb won the Female Player of the Year, an award she has collected on 13 previous occasions. Other winners were Stacey Keating (Rookie Player of the Year), Peter Fowler (Senior Player of the Year), Bryden MacPherson (Amateur Player of the year), Minjee Lee (Junior Player of the Year), Paul Hayden (Trainee Player of the Year), Col Swatton (Coach of the Year) and Norm Emerson (Services to Golf). The AGCSA congratulates Richard on a much deserved award.
