Bennett appointed Royal Adelaide superintendent

AGCSA member Nathan Bennett (pictured) was this week confirmed as the new course superintendent at Royal Adelaide Golf Club. Bennett, who replaces Jeff Kaines, will make the move over to South Australia after spending the past six years as course superintendent of The Sands, Torquay on Victoria’s Surf Coast.

“Royal Adelaide is a very prestigious club with a proud history and I am very much looking forward to taking up the opportunity,” Bennett told The Cut. “It will be sad to leave The Sands as we have developed a very good team in recent times, but this sort of job doesn’t come along often.”

Bennett, who will start his new posting shortly after Cup Day in November, started his turf management career as an apprentice at Metropolitan Golf Club in Melbourne, progressing to foreman before heading to Moonah Links where he was assistant superintendent in charge of the Legends Course. After being a part of the 2003 and 2005 Australian Opens hosted at Moonah Links, at the start of 2006 he shifted to the other side of Port Phillip Bay to The Sands, Torquay.

In taking on the Royal Adelaide job, Bennett has had to step down from the VGCSA committee which he has been a part of for the past four years, including his current role as vice-president under Steven Hewitt. The AGCSA wishes Nathan all the best in his new role.
