Golf flood recovery fund open for grant applications

The extreme weather conditions in Australia in 2011 caused substantial damage to infrastructure and equipment at many Queensland and Victorian golf clubs. Golf Australia and Golf Queensland have established the Golf Industry Recovery Fund to provide funding support to clubs that suffered damage due to flood or cyclone occurring between November 2010 and May 2011. Golf Queensland will be responsible for the management of the application process in Queensland.

The Fund will provide one-off funding to assist clubs directly affected by flooding or cyclone to re-establish themselves. The programme provides assistance towards repair and remediation of damages caused by a flood or cyclone. This may include (but is not limited to):

  • Fairways, tees or greens
  • Practice areas
  • Maintenance facilities
  • Irrigation and pumps
  • Bridges or paths
  • Playing equipment
  • Maintenance equipment
  • Office or catering equipment
  • Clubhouse or building damage

To ensure that all clubs that have experienced flood or cyclone damage have access to support, the amount of funding to the most damaged clubs will need to be capped.  This cap will be established after all applications are received. The support is not intended to compensate for loss of income suffered as a result of the disaster event and not intended to cover maintenance that is routine or work that is an improvement to the facilities (including flood mitigation).

Applications are now open and affected golf clubs have until Tuesday 14 June to make a submission. Clubs will be notified on 12 July whether they have been allocated grants from the fund.
