Sherriff elected president of South Australian association
Mt Barker Golf Club superintendent Sam Sherriff (centre) is the new president of the South Australian Golf Course Superintendents Association following the Annual General Meeting held on Thursday. Sherriff replaces Adelaide Shores superintendent Andrew Blacker who steps down to a general committee position after three years as president.
As well as a new president, the SAGCSA committee boasts two new faces in the form of Barry Bryant (Mt Osmond GC) and Richard James (The Grange GC) who takes over the secretary/treasurer role left vacant following Sherriff’s elevation to president. After a long and productive time on the SAGCSA committee, Murray Bridge Golf Cub superintendent Mal Grundy stepped down and he was thanked for his valuable efforts over the years. The new 2010-11 SAGCSA committee (pictured below) is as follows:
-
President: Sam Sherriff (Mt Barker GC)
-
Vice president: Stuart Gillespie (Riverside GC)
-
Secretary/Treasurer: Richard James (The Grange GC)
-
Committee: Barry Bryant (Mt Osmond GC) and Andrew Blacker (Adelaide Shores)
The SAGCSA AGM was held at Riverside Golf Club (host superintendent Stuart Gillespie) with guest speakers John Neylan (AGCSA) and John Cooper (Globe) putting together a presentation on the evolution of the turf industry in South Australia. Brian Goodridge from Toro ran a silent auction to raise funds for injured WA superintendent Simon Bourne and Andrew Manthorpe (Globe) also got involved with a raffle. The SAGCSA also made a donation and a total of more than $1000 was raised on the day.
