Golf course superintendents are all professionals in their own right but often do not receive the recognition they deserve for their skills and knowledge. The aim of the AGCSA Accreditation Program (AAP) is to provide recognition of the skills learnt on the job, plus those gained from attending educational programs within the formal education system. The beauty of the program is that it allows both young and older superintendents to gain recognition for skills, independent of whether these were predominantly gained on the job (as with most older superintendents) or both on the job and by attending formal education (as with most younger superintendents).
The second aim of the AAP is to encourage all superintendents to continue to strive for knowledge and further skills to equip themselves with the most up-to-date knowledge and techniques to deliver the very best turf surfaces possible with the resources available to them. The Continuing Education Points (CEP) component of the AAP provides recognition and points toward accreditation for members who attend AGCSA accredited or endorsed educational programs/activities and in so doing demonstrate a commitment to further training.
The benefits of becoming an AGCSA Accredited Golf Course Superintendent are obvious. These individuals are rapidly becoming acknowledged as the obvious choice when golf clubs employ new superintendents. The attainment of accreditation will also secure your existing standing with your club and the AGCSA will write to your club informing them of your attainment of accredited status.
The AGCSA Accreditation Program provides an opportunity to advance in your career as a professional golf course superintendent and increased recognition will be an added benefit. But most of all, you will be providing yourself with peace of mind that you are meeting the needs of this challenging career by arming yourself with the optimum blend of on-the-job experience and technical training.
